Plum & Cog by Dixon

I’m absolutely loving the look of these new collections by British designer Tom Dixon. Launching officially at Maison & Objet in Paris later this month, but I couldn’t wait to share them with you. I am planning to go back again to M&O this year, but in September. I’m also planning to go to the inaugural Singapore event in March. Anyone else going?

Happy New Year!

I know, I’m a bit late to the table. But happy new years anyway! I got back to chilly, smoggy Hong Kong a few days ago from my amazing trip to South Africa. If you’ve never been then I highly recommend you do. Plus, Cape Town is World Design Capital this year, so no better time to go really. I won’t bore you with all the details, but I did spend Xmas day here…

I booked us a table for lunch at the Delaire Graff winery months ago, and I’m so glad I did. The food, wine and the service were just as amazing as that view. The winery, which is nestled in a valley and surrounded by vineyards in Stellenbosch (not quite an hour from Cape Town), is truly spectacular. And the interiors were designed by the late, great David Collins (yes, that was definitely a deciding factor).

But enough of my travel tales, I have news to share.

I have thought long and hard about how to develop this blog from what it started out as very innocently in 2006.  I may well be insane, but I have decided nonetheless to publish a magazine. I will give you more details as we get closer to the publication date (hopefully within the next few months), but I can tell you it will be unlike any other design magazine on the market at the moment.

I would love to hear from readers, especially those of you in Asia, and what you might like to see and read, and we will do our best to incorporate that into the format we are working on currently.

I would like to thank those of you who have sent submission material to us for publication on the blog, and encourage you to continue to do so for publication in our magazine.

So keep your fingers crossed for me, and be patient if I post even less regularly as we put together our inaugural issue.

I wish all of you the very best for 2014. I have a good feeling about this year!

Antonio Zaninovic

It might be that I’m flying off to South Africa tomorrow night, or it just might that Antonio Zaninovic Architects work is amazing….either way, I am loving the modernity and the openness…and the amazing views of Table Mountain and the Atlantic don’t hurt either.

I won’t be posting while I’m gone, but am hoping to have some pretty exciting news to share with you all once I return.

So, until then, we wish you all a very merry festive season, and all the best for 2014. I have a good feeling about next year…

FBC

I am very excited to be able to share these images with you this morning…the new furniture collection from FBC London. The range is designed by FBC founder, interior designer Fiona Barratt-Campbell, and produced by craftsmen in the North of England. The range of finishes is really quite something (check out the hand applied chipped oak on the City Chest, and the mix of bronze, limestone and oak on the Isabella cabinet!) The range is quite extensive, here are just a few of my quick picks. You can head on over to their website for the rest of the collection and more information.

New retail in HK

Its been an exiting week for new store openings in Hong Kong this week….

First off we have Tang Tang Tang Tang, by local legend David Tang. A mix of clothing and homewares, new and antique. Located in the ground floor of the lovely old building where the Pawn is, its so nice to see someone has finally done something with that empty space. Unfortunately I was a little underwhelmed by the stock, and how the space had been designed, especially considering the $ and clout that Tang has. Still, some nice items in there, and probably still worth a visit.

amelie & tulips officially opened on Wednesday in the uber cool POHO neighbourhood. A mix of art, vintage furniture and new scandinavian designs, in a very cool space. Definitely worth a look. And you can have a wander around this ever changing area at the same time. There are plenty of cute places to grab a bite to eat or a good coffee.

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Manks sale

Manks warehouse clearance sale starts tomorrow! Get on down folks!

Ladurée

Oh joy of joys! Now I don’t need to trek all the way over to Kowloon side to get my fix!

Henri Fitzwilliam-Lay

I stumbled upon the work of Henri Fitwilliam-Lay yesterday in the latest House & Garden (UK)…a magazine I don’t typically read. But I’m so glad I picked up a copy. Her spaces are so fresh and so new looking…these images are just the tip of the iceburg…you really need to check out her website for more. With natural talent like this, I can’t wait to see more for her in the future!

here are a few of my favorite things….

I don’t normally do gift guides…so lets just call this a few of my favorite things…now, hubby dear, if you did want to get me something for Xmas…any or all of these would do 😉
